Madi Lee is a 24-year-old who moved to the tiny town of Medora, North Dakota, after college. The year-round population of Medora is less than 150 but the town explodes with tourists in summer. Medora, North Dakota, has always been one of my favorite places. It's a unique place, located in the North Dakota Badlands at the entrance of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Madi Lee loves working the Medora Musical in the summer and enjoys the remote nature of North Dakota in the winter.

A boomer and her husband moved to southwest Florida from Minnesota to start her clothing business. They moved to southern Minnesota, then northern Minnesota to an off-the-grid cabin an hour north of Duluth. They knew northern Minnesota was not conducive to starting a business, so they considered Florida an ideal location. She said she's also adjusting to the fishing scene in Florida, which is mainly saltwater, compared to freshwater fishing in Minnesota. Despite all she's been through, Pelton thinks she'll stay in Florida for the time being — the only other place she's considering is India.

It’s not every art installation that instructs visitors to take small steps like a penguin. Then again, there’s nothing quite like the Art Shanty Projects, in which intrepid Minnesota artists in insulated jumpsuits and ice cleats annually recreate traditional ice fishing huts, called shanties, in their own eccentric style on a frozen lake in Minneapolis. The idea that 19 artists’ shanties would rise on Lake Harriet — Bde’ Unma in the Dakota language — for this three-weekend event was never a foregone conclusion. Already this winter there have been four fatalities from people driving vehicles onto the ice. In late December, more than 100 people had to be rescued from an ice floe that broke free from a fishing area on a northern Minnesota lake.

Fans have been tracking the young male moose for weeks and posting updates on a Facebook page that as of Tuesday had more than 18,000 followers. Todd Froberg, the agency's big game program coordinator, said the young moose is likely looking for home territory or other moose and is expected to continue moving north. “He’s lost, and he’s trying to get home to his family,” said Bernie Stang, a moose fan who spotted the animal in late October. She suspects Rutt traveled from North Dakota through South Dakota and Iowa before coming back to Minnesota, based on news reports of moose sightings in South Dakota that match his description. The Kelliher Fire Department assisted in the rescue on Upper Red Lake in northern Minnesota. About 200 people ice fishing in Northern Minnesota were rescued Monday afternoon after a large sheet of ice broke away from shore and drifted into Upper Red Lake, according to the local sheriff. A fisherman called 911 at around 11:30 a.m. Monday saying the anglers were stranded, according to a press statement from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s office. Upper Red Lake is about 300 miles north of the Twin Cities, and 40 miles south of the Canadian border.
